Office of the Deputy Registrar / Public District System is functioning in the same building annexed with office of the Joint Registrar of Cooperative Societies. This office has exclusively entrusted with the supervision of PDS shops functioning in Thoothukudi District . It has control over 790 Fair Price Shops as detailed below.

IV . Present Schemes under Implementation :

Since Cooperatives have wide network upto village level, the Department has decided to offer all kinds of Agri related services under one roof. Accordingly the following new activities are undertaken by the cooperatives.

(1) Formation of Agri Clinics :

12 Agri Clinics were formed in Thoothukudi District by Primary Agricultural Cooperative Credit Societies to undertake soil sample test and water sample test and offer valuable suggestion to the Rural Agri Community

(2) Establishment of Agro Service Centers :

40 Agro Service Centers are established in Thoothukudi Distrsict to offer various Agri machineries like Tractor, Power tiller, weed Cutters, Power Sprayers etc., by Collecting reasonable hire charges from the farmers/ tenants

According to Hon’ble Minister for Cooperation’s announcement in the Assembly . 66 Primary Agricultural Cooperative Credit Societies are selected for formation of Agro Service Center for the year 2011 – 12 and necessary proposals have been sent to Registrar of Cooperative Societies for releasing subsidy.

(3) Produce Pledge Loan :

Hon’ble Minister for Cooperation has announced that the ceiling for produce pledge for individuals is raised from Rs. 2/- Lakh to Rs. 3/- Lakshs. For the year 2011 – 12

Rs. 150/- lakhs Target is fixed for issuing produce pledge thro Primary Agricultural Cooperative Credit Societies and Rs. 54 Lakhs issued upto 31.10.2011

(4) Joint Liability Group Formation.

According to Hon’ble Minister for Cooperation’s announcement target for formation of JLG for the year 2011 – 12 is 50. This target is achieved since.

(5) Establishment of Common Service Centers :

To facilitate remote rural people to avail modern computerized communication services like , issuing of computerized patta Railway E.Ticket booking , Air ticket booking , Computerized mark statement etc., the Primary Agricultural Cooperative Societies are doing Common Service Center activities in their premises . At present there are 12 Common Service Centers are functioning in the District . According to Hon’ble Minister for Cooperation’s announcement, 20 PACCS and 3 PCARDB’s are selected for establishing Common Service Centers for the year 2011 – 12 and necessary proposals have been sent to Registrar of Cooperative Societies for subsidy.

(6) Seed Sales :

For the benefit of Farmers, Cooperatives are also distributing quality seeds , at reasonable rates . In Thoothukudi District Kovilpatti Primary Agricultural Cooperative Marketing Society is acting as Seed Coordinator for Seed Sales thro Cooperatives For the year 2011-12 , the Target for the seed sales is Rs. 50 lakshs of which 53.463 MTs Seeds (Value Rs. 47.78 lakhs) . were distributed upto 31.10.2011

(7) Fertilizers Sales :

The Sale of Chemical Fertilizers through Primary Cooperative Credit Societies for the year, was 9335 MTS and to the tune of Rs. 722.62 Lakhs. For the year 2011- 12

Fertilizer sale is 4330 MTS and to the tune of Rs. 628 Lakhs upto 31.10.2011
